AFTERBURN REPORT 2001
Everyone has a creative spirit in them, and any participant can create art for Burning Man. The Black Rock Desert forms a great blank canvas, a vast open-air gallery available to every participant, both to display art and to experience that displayed by others. Its floor is a flat and sterile alkaline surface, its ceiling is the blue sky by day and the stars by night, and its walls are the surrounding mountain ranges.
Without the restrictions that apply to most art galleries, the desert is an exciting and very challenging place in which to work. The Black Rock City Art Department has taken on the mission of assisting every artist in meeting these challenges, resulting in an array of artistic endeavors as varied as the participants who create them:
